The Language of Symbols — Learning to Read the Sacred Messages Around You 🌿🦋🌙
As we walk the Priestess path, we begin to realise that the world is constantly speaking to us. Not always in words, not always in ways that are loud or obvious — but in the quiet, beautiful language of symbols.
A feather that lands at your feet. An animal that crosses your path at just the right moment. The colours that appear in your visions. The objects that show up on your altar or in your dreams. These are not coincidences, Sisters. These are messages, and learning to read them is one of the most powerful skills you will ever develop on this path.
Why symbolism matters
When we journey, when we meditate, when we sit in ceremony, our higher self, our guides and the divine speak to us through symbol and image. The conscious mind loves logic and language, but the soul speaks in a much older tongue. Symbols bypass the thinking mind and land directly in the heart, carrying layers of meaning that words alone could never hold.
This is why two women can receive the same symbol and it can mean something slightly different for each of them, because symbolism is both universal and deeply personal. There is the collective wisdom held within a symbol across cultures and centuries, and then there is what it means to you, in your body, in your life, right now.
Both matter. Both are sacred.
Learning to work with your symbols
When a symbol comes to you, resist the urge to immediately Google it and take the first answer as gospel. Instead, sit with it first. Ask yourself —
How did it make me feel when I saw it? What is my first instinct about what it means? Does it connect to something happening in my life right now?
Then by all means research it, explore the mythology, look at how different cultures have worked with it and see what resonates. You will often find that your instinct was right, or that the broader meaning adds a beautiful layer of depth to what you already felt.
Symbols are everywhere
It is not only in our visions and journeys that symbols speak to us. Nature is one of the greatest symbol keepers there is. The animals we encounter, the plants that keep catching our eye, the weather on a significant day, the phase of the moon, all of it is part of a living, breathing conversation between you and the world around you.
As you deepen your practice, you will begin to notice patterns. Certain symbols will return to you again and again, through different seasons, different ceremonies, different chapters of your life. These are your personal symbols, your soul's signature language, and they are worth writing down and returning to often.
Keep a symbol journal
If you do not already, I would encourage every one of you to keep a record of the symbols that come to you in your journeys, in nature, in dreams, in everyday life. Write down not just the symbol but how it appeared, how it made you feel, and what was happening in your life at the time. Over months and years this becomes the most extraordinary map of your spiritual growth and evolution.
You will look back and see threads you never noticed before. You will see how guided you have always been. You will see your own story written in the most beautiful symbolic language.
You are always being spoken to, Sisters. The question is simply — are you listening? 🌿
Drop below and share a symbol that has been showing up for you lately. I would love to hear what the universe has been whispering to you. 🌙🦋🐺
Blessed be 🌿✨
